KJ Wignall was born into an army family and lived in different parts of Europe for the first ten years of his life. This led to some interesting experiences - going to school in a German castle, learning to drive a tank when he was seven, that kind of thing. The family returned to the west of England and he has lived there ever since, apart from when he studied at Lancaster, a city which played a big part in inspiring The Mercian Trilogy. It also inspired one of his five novels for adults, Among the Dead, and a Norwegian band liked this book so much that they wrote a song about it called Emily Barratt's Dead (you can see the video on his website). Another book is being turned into a film in Hollywood. For now though, KJ is busy writing the rest of The Mercian Trilogy which he says is, "the most important thing I've ever written". Perhaps because of his childhood, he still likes to travel - sometimes, he even likes to arrive.
