Theo Dorgan
Theo Dorgan was born in Cork, Ireland, 1953. Has published three books of poetry: The Ordinary House of Love(1991), Rosa Mundi (1995) and Sappho's Daughter (1998). He is the editor of Irish Poetry Since Kavanagh (1995) and co-editor of Revising the Rising(1991), The Great Book of Ireland (1991), Watching The River Flow (2000) and The Great Book of Gaelic (2002). A selected poems in Italian, La Casa ai Margini del Mondo, was published in 1998 (Moby Dick, Faenza), and a Spanish translation of Sappho's Daughter, La Hija de Safo, appeared in 2000 (Ediciones Hípérion, Madrid). Sailing for Home, a prose book detailing the author’s crossing of the Atlantic under sail, was published by Penguin Ireland in 2004. Also in 2004 his libretto, Jason and The Golden Fleece, to music by Howard Goodall, was premiered in the Royal Albert Hall. An anthology, A Book of Uncommon Prayer, was published by Penguin in 2006. Theo is also a radio and television broadcaster, a documentary scriptwriter, and a member of Aosdána, Ireland’s academy of the arts. His latest book of poetry What this Earth Cost Us, was published by Dedalus Press in 2008.
